The Asian Film Festival Barcelona | AFFBCN 2025, the Asian auteur cinema festival organized by Casa Asia, lands at CASA SEAT to showcase the cultural richness and diversity of Asian and Pacific cinemas.
From November 5 to 8, the CASA SEAT auditorium will screen a selection of 8 auteur films, offering a unique opportunity to discover new stories and innovative ways of telling them.
The film featured in this session is Bachtiar (Indonesia, 2025) by director Hafiz Rancalaje. Bachtiar Siagian was one of Indonesia’s most important filmmakers, active during the nation’s independence process and the events of autumn 1965, which led to the persecution—and often execution—of those considered subversive. As one of the most prominent members of Indonesia’s main communist cultural movement, the Lembaga Kebudayaan Rakyat, Bachtiar remained imprisoned for twelve years and was unable to direct any more films. The lack of information about his later life sparked Hafiz Rancalaje’s interest in exploring the true story of this director.
