Portrait of Lee-Ann Olwage: Gordon de Bruin.

For the second consecutive year, CASA SEAT collaborates with the World Press Photo 2023 exhibition in Barcelona to bring you the testimony and work of some of the greatest exponents of photojournalism today. On this occasion, South African Lee-Ann Olwage, winner of the World Press Photo 2023 award in the category of Individual Photographs (Africa) with the project The Great Forgotten, will visit our auditorium.

The winning image is part of a personal project by the photographer that emphasizes stories about dementia on the African continent. As life expectancy increases, so do cases of dementia, a fact that generates a public health and cultural problem in societies where the symptoms of the disease are sometimes mistaken for witchcraft.

Lee Ann-Olwage
will talk about her experience portraying users of the so-called "witch camps" in Ghana, the problems faced by people suffering from mental or neurodegenerative disorders, and how individuals and organizations are working to change the social perception of these conditions and improve the integration of patients.

Mireia Plans, from the educational area of the Photographic Social Vision Foundation, will talk with the author about how photography can help groups in vulnerable situations, serve to combat prejudice and have a positive social impact.

Event in English with the possibility of simultaneous translation into Spanish.

The World Press Photo Barcelona 2023 exhibition is organized by Photographic Social Vision and co-produced by CCCB, with the main collaboration of the Fundació Banc Sabadell.

Tickets available from October 26.
