As part of the World Press Photo Barcelona 2026 Exhibition, we open our doors to the presentation of ‘Hijacked Education’, the project by Diego Ibarra Sánchez, winner of the 2026 World Press Photo award in the Long-Term Projects category (West, Central and South Asia).

Around the world, armed conflict, violence and extremism are depriving millions of children of their fundamental right to education. Despite international agreements to protect classrooms, attacks on schools, teachers and students continue to rise, threatening to leave an entire generation without the tools or the hope to rebuild their communities.

Since 2011, photographer Diego Ibarra Sánchez has documented this reality in nine countries, visiting bombed-out schools and displaced communities to give a voice to a crisis as urgent as it is invisible.
